Notice Regarding GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Contraception
You are currently prescribed a GLP-1 receptor agonist medication (such as Ozempic, Mounjaro or Wegovy). We are writing to provide important information regarding the use of these medications and pregnancy.
The effects of GLP-1 medications on a developing foetus are not well established. Because of this uncertainty, these medications are not recommended during pregnancy.
If you are of childbearing potential and are taking a GLP-1 medication, it is important that you use reliable contraception while on treatment to avoid unintended pregnancy. Please discuss suitable contraceptive options with us if you are unsure which method is appropriate for you.
If you are considering becoming pregnant, you should stop your GLP-1 medication in advance. Due to the long duration these medications remain in the body, we recommend discontinuing treatment at least 2 months before attempting to conceive.
If you become pregnant while taking a GLP-1 medication, please stop the medication immediately and contact our clinic as soon as possible for further guidance.
If you have questions about this information, contraception, or pregnancy planning, please make an appointment in person at our office. If you are under 35 years old you may be eligible for a free contraceptive scheme visit. See above booking link to schedule this.
We are happy to discuss your individual situation and support you in making safe treatment decisions.
